All India Law Entrance Exam (AILET) is conducted every year on the first Sunday of May by National Law University (NLU), New Delhi. The notification for AILET exam is released by NLU New Delhi on its website as well as leading national newspapers in January each year. On the basis of their score in AILET 2017, candidates can secure admissions in BA LLB (Hons), LLM and PhD programmes offered at NLU, New Delhi. On the basis of AILET results, one can secure admissions to fill 81 seats in the BA LLB (Hons) course and 20 in LLM course. Also, in the BA LLB (Hons) programme, 10 seats are reserved for foreign nationals and one seat is set aside for Kashmiri migrants. AILET 2017 important dates!

In order to secure admissions at NLU, New Delhi, aspirants need to follow the below mentioned steps:
STEP 1: Fill AILET Application Form; Aspirants can apply for AILET on the official website of NLU, New Delhi. The application forms for AILET exam are mostly available for purchase form the first week in January (of the exam year). In order to appear for AILET, aspirants need to pay an application fee of Rs 3000 if they belong to the general category. Aspirants applying for this law entrance exam under SC/ST category as well as persons with disability (PwD) category need to pay a fee of Rs 1000 and Rs 2000 respectively. However, if any SC/ ST candidate is from below poverty line then no fee is charged from him/her.
Documents to keep handy while filling AILET are: Class X marksheet, Class XII marksheet, SC/ST/PwD certificate (if applicable), BPL (Below Poverty Line) category certificate (if applicable) Passport size photographs
STEP 2: Download AILET Admit Card. The admit card for AILET will be issued online to candidates. The AILET admit card is usually issued by April. Candidates will not be allowed to take AILET if they do not possess a valid admit card for the exam. Aspirants can download the admit card for this law entrance exam from the official website of NLU, New Delhi.
STEP 3: This law entrance exam is of one and half hour duration. The AILET exam is divided into five sections which are English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, Basic Mathematics and Legal Aptitude
The AILET exam for BA LLB (Hons) course comprises of 150 questions which aspirants need to complete in duration of one hour 30 minutes. AILET exam pattern is such that the test paper is divided into five sections which are English, Basic Mathematics, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. Maximum marks which one can secure in AILET are 150.
The eligibility criteria to appear for AILET differs as per the course in which a candidate wants to secure admissions.
BA LLB (Hons); Candidates can apply for AILET if they meet the eligibility criteria as mentioned on the official website. In order to appear for AILET, candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination and scored a minimum of 50%. However, candidates appearing for 10+2 examinations in the year of the AILET can also apply provided they meet the above condition at the time of admission.
Age Limit: Aspirant will be eligible to apply for AILET exam if they are below 21 years of age (if they belong to the general category). The age limit criterion for SC/ST category candidates is 23 years.
LLM; Indian students; Aspirants can apply for LLM programme admissions if they have cleared their LLB or equivalent degree from a recognized University wherein they have not scored less than 55% marks. For candidates belonging to the SC/ST/Persons with Disability category, the eligibility criteria specifies that aspirants will be eligible to apply for admissions if they score 50% in LLB or equivalent degree.
Foreign Nationals; Candidates who are foreign nationals will be eligible to secure admissions if their academic record of LLB or equivalent degree is recognized by the UGC/ Association of Indian Universities with not less than 55% marks or the equivalent grade. Apart from this, foreign nationals will also be evaluated with respect to their communication skills in written as well as spoken English. Further, their performance in the interview round will be evaluated on criteria such as aptitude and capacity.
PhD; In order to be eligible to secure admission in a doctoral programme at law on the basis of AILET, an aspirant needs to fulfill any ONE of the below mentioned criterions:
Secure a Master Degree in law from any recognized university wherein he/she has not secured less than 55% marks if they belong to the general category. This percentage requirement for SC/ST/ persons with disability is 50%. Secure a law degree along with a Master’s Degree with MPhil in social sciences/humanities from any recognized university such that they do not secure less than 55% marks (or its equivalent). However, here aspirants need to ensure that the research work they have conducted in the social sciences/humanities sphere interfaces with any discipline of law and apart from that has special focus on topics like Public Policy of Law. Possess a degree in law & PhD in any discipline or worked as a State High Court Judge in India having three years experience or being a Judge at Supreme Court of India.
