B.U.M.S (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) is an undergraduate degree programme in the field of Unani medicine and surgery. This degree covers the medical knowledge of the Unani system. To pursue and owe this degree is quite enough to become a doctor (Hakim) in the Unani medical field.
Unani is the fourth most popular medication system in India after the allopathic, ayurvedic and homeopathic system. According to this system there are four elements in human body as the Blood, Phlegm, yellow bile and the black bile. This is similar to the Ayurveda in term of the four elements and as popular as the Ayurveda.

Candidates seeking admission to a Bachelor course in Unani Medicine are required to pass their Intermediate / Senior School Certificate Examination (C.B.S.E.) / Indian School Certificate Examination (SC) Plus two or equivalent examination. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) regulates the education of Unani in India. There are about 35 recognised colleges of Unani medicine in India.
Candidates for admission to the B.U.M.S Course should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or would completed the age on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the first year.
The Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery is offered by many public and private colleges and institutes in India. The eligibility of the course is that one should pass 12th standard with minimum 50% marks in aggregate in physics, chemistry and biology from a recognized college or university. Those candidates who have Urdu in their Intermediate exam are given preference. BUMS is of 5½ years course including house surgency. After completing BUMS, one can also pursue MD (Mahir-e-Tibb) and MS courses. The interested candidate may also pursue Ph.D.
